The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education recently changed the curriculum of Mathematics. But, being a teacher of Mathematics I am very much worried about the standard of the students who are belonging to this curriculum. The pass mark is 25 only out of which 10 marks is for oral. Now think if a students do a construction and a theorem in his examination then he may get 12. Then 2 or 3 objective questions may give him 4 or 6 marks. So he already gets 16 to 18 marks. Oral exam can give him rest of the marks easily. So without doing Algebra and Arithmetic a student can easily pass out an exam. Now can we say that the student, who passes out, has minimum knowledge on Mathematics? This is the tragedy, and we are going on with the system.
